Gas prices are on the rise again at the national level, but regional prices are headed in the opposite direction. That's according to AAA, which reports that Monday's nationwide average at the pump is $4.06 per gallon, an increase of more than five cents from a week ago. In New York, the statewide average has dropped more than three cents to $4.13, and Chautauqua County saw its average decline by nearly two cents to $4.24. One year ago, the national and state averages were $3.14 and $3.16, respectively.
AAA adds that crude oil prices are once again in the $81-88 per barrel range as of Monday morning amid continued uncertainty along the Strait of Hormuz. While gasoline demand is down, crude oil prices are keeping pump prices higher than normal for this time of year. So far, this is the highest August on record when it comes to the national gasoline average.
AAA of Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following regional averages:
- Batavia - $4.21 (down two cents from last Monday)
- Buffalo - $4.21 (down two cents from last Monday)
