The average price at the gas pump continues to trend upward, and this August is currently shaping up to be the highest on record. According to AAA, Monday's national average is $4.10 per gallon, New York State is averaging $4.17, and the average in Chautauqua County is $4.28. All three prices are up by more than three cents compared to a week ago. One year ago, the national and statewide averages were $3.15 and $3.16, respectively.
Even though gasoline demand is down, which is typical for this time of year, higher crude oil prices are pushing up the national average gas prices. Crude oil prices are once again in the $85-95 per barrel range amid continued instability in the Strait of Hormuz.
AAA of Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following regional averages:
- Batavia - $4.18 (down three cents from last Monday)
- Buffalo - $4.21 (no change from last Monday)
- Elmira - $4.00 (no change from last Monday)
- Ithaca - $4.21 (up two cents from last Monday)
- Rochester - $4.23 (up two cents from last Monday)
- Rome - $4.21 (up one cent from last Monday)
- Syracuse - $4.14 (no change from last Monday)
- Watertown - $4.20 (up two cents from last Monday)
