President Donald Trump's recent executive order renaming Lake Ontario has spurred two Democratic lawmakers from New York to push back legislatively. On Thursday, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced that she plans to introduce a bill called the Hands Off Our Great Lakes Act during the next Senate working period. She says the bill would not only restore Lake Ontario's original name, but also prevent the executive branch from renaming any of the five Great Lakes. Gillibrand adds that it would nullify and prohibit the implementation and use of funds for the executive order that renamed Lake Ontario to "Lake America." Congressman Joe Morelle has introduced companion legislation in the House.
