Gas Prices Jump 16 Cents Per Gallon Nationally

The nationwide average price for a gallon gas has risen sharply as crude oil prices continue to climb amid volatility in the Strait of Hormuz. According to AAA, the national average is up more than 16 cents from a week ago and is now $4.32. Smaller increases are being reported across New York. The statewide average is up nearly eight cents to $4.39. And Chautauqua County's average rose by nearly two cents and is currently $4.38. One year ago, the national and statewide averages were $3.17 and $3.25, respectively.

AAA reports that crude oil is back into the $100-110 per barrel range for the first time since July, which has sent pump price to levels comparable to June. In September, the national average is rising during a period when gas prices typically decline due to lower seasonal demand.

AAA of Western and Central New York (AAA WCNY) reports the following regional averages:

  • Batavia - $4.31 (up three cents from last Monday)
  • Buffalo - $4.32 (up four cents from last Monday)
  • Elmira - $4.24 (up four cents from last Monday)
  • Ithaca - $4.32 (up four cents from last Monday)
  • Rochester - $4.30 (up three cents from last Monday)
  • Rome - $4.35 (up five cents from last Monday)
  • Syracuse - $4.26 (up three cents from last Monday)
  • Watertown - $4.42 (up nine cents from last Monday)
