Chautauqua County's unemployment rate held steady at 4.6% during the month of August, according to preliminary statistics released Tuesday by the New York State Department of Labor. That figure is unchanged from July, but is also higher than the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.3%. One year ago, the county's jobless rate was 4.5%. Additional statistics show that compared to August 2025, Chautauqua County has approximately 700 more people employed, while about 100 more people are listed as unemployed.
