For much of the night, it didn't appear there would be much drama during Friday's high school football clash at the Orange Bowl between Fredonia and Allegany-Limestone. In a game broadcast on WDOE, the Hillbillies had what appeared to be a comfortable lead in the 4th quarter, then found themselves staving off a furious rally from the Gators. In the end, Fredonia survived and escaped with a 39-30 victory on its homecoming night.
It only took 13 seconds for Fredonia (3-1, 2-1) to strike first, with Markel Davis running back the opening kickoff 79 yards for a touchdown, his second kickoff return touchdown in as many games. Later in the 1st quarter, Brayden Korzeniewski tacked on a 31-yard field to make the score 10-0. The Billies' lead stretched to 17-0 when Noah Palisin connected with Graham Putney for a 27-yard touchdown. Allegany-Limestone (2-2, 1-2) got some life late in the 2nd quarter and took some momentum into halftime when Greg Peck caught a 14-yard touchdown pass on the last play of the half. A successful two-point conversation brought the Gators within 17-8. However, Fredonia regained control. In the 3rd quarter, Davis scored his second touchdown of the night on a 5-yard run, then in the 4th quarter, Korzeniewski caught a 55-yard touchdown toss, putting the Billes up 31-8 with 5:39 left. But the Gators didn't go away quietly. Touchdowns by Bronx Foster and Ryan Callen, coupled with successful two-point conversions, suddenly made it a 31-24 contest with 2:16 remaining. Allegany-Limestone got the ball back in Fredonia territory with 1:42 on the clock, but two plays later, Ayden Wronski came up with an interception. On the next play, Palisin threw his third touchdown pass of the night, a 20-yarder to Lavonce Donaldson to put the game out of reach.
In addition to his three touchdown throws, Noah Palisin was an efficient 11-for-16 passing for 178 yards. Lavonce Donaldson caught four balls for 65 yards and a score, and Ayden Wronski ran 18 times for 66 yards. Allegany-Limestone quarterback Tayden Margeson went 17-for-29 for 250 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions in a losing cause. His top target was Ryan Callen, who had seven receptions for 106 yards and a touchdown. And Greg Peck hauled in six grabs for 79 yards and two touchdowns.
