Council Member Counters Push for Earlier City Tax Collection Deadline

A member of the Dunkirk Common Council does not agree with the City Comptroller's push to move up the tax collection deadline for city residents. According to a media report from a recent Finance Committee meeting, Tracy Smith-Dengler is apparently advocating to push that deadline in 2027 from May to January due to a lack of available money to keep city operations going. First Ward Councilwoman Natalie Luczkowiak, who attended that committee meeting, suggested sending out tax bills earlier than usual, but keeping the current due date...

Luczkowiak, who was a guest on WDOE's "Viewpoint" program, says residents she has heard from are confused about why the city wants to change the deadline...
However, Luczkowiak indicated that the city will "probably" go with her suggestion. Luczkowiak believes the Comptroller's desire to move up the due date will not help the city's financial situation. She says the city has "a few million dollars" more compared to the same time last year.
