Nine people are dead as the result of a mass shooting in Erie, Pennsylvania on Friday. In a statement on its website Saturday morning, the City of Erie Government provided some clarification in response to "inaccurate information" circulating about the incident that occurred near 7th Street and Perry Street. City officials say police officers arrived on scene within minutes of receiving a ShotSpotter alert. They add that the deaths were not the result of any prolonged standoff or delay in police action, and no additional gunshots were fired before officers arrived. According to officials, sounds heard during the police response that may have been mistaken for gunfire were flash bangs associated with law enforcement's tactical response. Officials add that police had limited information upon arrival, including whether the individual remained inside or posed an ongoing threat. Officers continued assessing the situation and gathering information while seeking a search warrant.
City officials say additional details on the shooting will be given during a press conference Saturday afternoon.
