An asphalt company that provides road repair services in Western New York will have to sell a handful of its facilities, including its regional headquarters in Jamestown. This after an investigation by New York Office of the Attorney General, Pennsylvania Office of the Attorney General, and the U.S. Department of Justice found that a proposed merger of Colas, Inc. and Suit-Kote Corporation would have unfairly reduced competition for road maintenance services. New York Attorney General Letitia James says her office's investigation found that for several counties in the region, including Chautauqua County, Colas and Suit-Kote were often the only two regular bidders for turnkey road repair services. James says the proposed merger would have given Colas the power to demand higher prices and eliminate its incentive to invest in higher quality services and innovation. Under a settlement, Colas will be required to sell several of its locations to a single, competitive buyer. Suit-Kote's regional headquarters is located at 153 Jones & Gifford Avenue in Jamestown.
