A search for an overdue hunter in Cattaraugus County was successful, thanks to work by several area agencies, including a team from Chautauqua County. According to the New York State DEC, State Police requested assistance from DEC Forest Rangers in Allegany State Park in the Town of Red House at about 12:15 AM on October 16th. A total of nine rangers, New York State Park Police, Niagara Frontier Search and Rescue, the Chautauqua County Search Team, and State Police drone and K-9 teams searched the area throughout the night. More than nine hours later, State Park Police located the hunter in good health after conducting a linear search along a trail. The DEC says the hunter did not have a cell phone or a light, adding that when it started raining that night, the hunter sat down under a tree for shelter until the rain stopped in the morning.
