Starting Friday October 23, the Chautauqua County Health Department has issued a water conservation order for the Village of Fredonia's properties supplied by the Fredonia water system. Fredonia Mayor Mike Ferguson stresses this is not a boil water order.
According to Chautauqua County Health Department, seasonal changes in water quality causes strain on the water treatment plan of the Fredonia Reservoir. The filtration equipment for the Reservoir is functioning properly and the water produced meets the NYSDOH safety standards. However, water is moving through the treatment plant slower and the existing storage supplies is not able to keep up with normal water demand.
Therefore, the Village of Fredonia is asking all residents, businesses and institutions to be wary of their water usage. Some of the measures includes running dishwashers and washing machines with full loads, using disposable dishware and taking short showers.
