Seven weeks ago, Fredonia and Gowanda-Pine Valley squared off in a very close, back-and-forth game where the Hillbillies prevailed by a two-point margin after six lead changes. On Wednesday, the two Class C South football rivals had a rematch at the Orange Bowl, this time with the Class C Chuck Funke Bowl championship on the line, and the outcome was drastically different this time around. In a game broadcast on WDOE, the Panthers dominated the first half en route to a 42-12 victory over the Billies.
Gowanda-Pine Valley (6-4) scored two quick touchdowns, both by Cayden Redford, in the 1st quarter to take a 14-0 advantage. That lead grew to 20-0 in the 2nd quarter when Jayden Fish went into the end zone on a quarterback sneak. Later in the quarter, Fish completed a screen pass to Zane Rogers, who turned it into an 80-yard touchdown to put his team up 26-0 going into halftime. Fredonia (5-5) showed some life in the 3rd quarter when Rocco Muscarella made a leaping catch for a 41-yard touchdown. However, the Panthers did not allow the Billies to get any closer. Kyan Austin caught a 36-yard touchdown pass, then after a turnover, Rogers completed the carnage with a 55-yard touchdown run.
