Chautauqua County Sheriff's officers are investigating a one-vehicle crash that hospitalized a pair of south county teens last night. Deputies say 16-year-old Timothy Stappenbeck of Frewsburg was driving north on Scott Road in the Town of Carroll around 10:15 PM, when he lost control, crossed the southbound lane, and struck a large tree. Stappenbeck and his passenger, 16-year-old Tyler Smith of Jamestown, were treated at the scene before being taken to WCA Hospital. Officers found Stappenbeck had been driving after consuming alcohol, thereby violating the Zero Tolerance Law. He was also charged with failure to reduce speed on a curve, failure to keep right, and operating out of class for driving after 9:00 PM on a junior license.
