Maria "Flor" Torres, 86, of Dunkirk died on Saturday, February 28, 2026. She was born on January 10, 1940 in Guayanilla, Puerto Rico.
Maria was the wife of late Rosario Sixto Torres (2005) and daughter of Rosa Irizzary and Rene Caraballo. She was a resident in the City of Dunkirk for over 60 years and was a foster parent to many children for over 30 years. She loved cooking, gardening and enjoyed family gatherings. She enjoyed volunteering her time and cooking for various events at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church.
Her surviving children are Larry (Rosa) Pacheco, Zoilo King Pacheco, Luz (Jose) Morlett, Joe (Arcy) Torres, Jorge Torres, Mary Torres, Robert (Diane) Torres, Edward Tino (Betty) Torres, Rosita (Willie) Rosas, Stacy (Duane) Torres, Tracy Torres, Stephanie Torres, Lisa Torres and Johnny (Jasmine) Torres. Her pride and joy was her 32 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly; her sister and best friend, Lucy (Charlie) Monell; and brothers, Nelido Rodriguez and Wally Chuco Caraballo, Late Nelson Rodriguez.
Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Flor Windy (Gene) Tinnin; grandsons, Richard Torres and Joshua Torres; a brother, Nelson Rodriguez; and infant granddaughter, Jennifer Torres.
The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude to the staff members of the Chautauqua Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for their support throughout this difficult time.
Relatives and friends are welcome to attend calling hours on Wednesday, March 4 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home, 736 Central Avenue in Dunkirk. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 5 at 10:00 AM at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Roman Catholic Church, 328 Washington Avenue in Dunkirk. Interment will be held in St. Mary's Cemetery.
