Saturday Sports Update

Top: Things were not looking good for Syracuse in the Sweet 16, but the Orange ended Friday's contest against Gonzaga on a 15-3 run to come away with a 63-60 victory in the Midwest Regional Semifinals in Chicago.  Michael Gbinije (left) put the Orange ahead 61-60 with a layup with 22 seconds to play, while Tyler Lydon (right) blocked Josh Perkins' potential game-winner in the closing seconds to preserve the Syracuse win.  The Orange will play Virginia on Sunday for a chance to go to the Final Four.  Photos by syracuse.com

Bottom left: Demetrious Jackson was the hero for Notre Dame, as the Irish defeated Wisconsin 61-56 in Friday's East Regional Semifinals in Philadelphia.  Jackson made a quick layup, got a steal, then made another layup as part of an 8-0 Irish run in the final 20 seconds to get the win after Vitto Brown's go-ahead three-pointer appeared to put the Badgers in the driver's seat.  Photo by the Wisconsin State Journal

Bottom right: Ashley Repine was recently named to the CCAA Division 2 West 1st team for this high school basketball season.  The Cassadaga Valley senior led her team with 16.0 points and about five blocks per game.  Photo by the Observer
