Saturday Sports Update

Top: Jenn Suhr unsuccessfully tries to clear the bar during the women's pole vault finals at the Rio Olympics on Friday.  The Fredonia native was the top qualifier from the U.S. Olympic Trials last month and looked to make a run for a second gold medal.  However, she had been battling a respiratory virus all week, and as a result, did not win a medal this year.  Suhr, who won the gold in 2012 and the silver in 2008, finished this year's pole vault tied for 7th.  Photo from the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle

Bottom left: Kroy Biermann will be one of the players to watch today when the Buffalo Bills play the New York Giants in their second preseason game of 2016.  The former Atlanta Falcons defensive end was signed this week as an outside linebacker after the Bills waived I.K. Enemkpali after he went tore the ACL in his left knee in last Saturday's loss to the Colts.

Bottom right: Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka delivers a pitch against the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim on Friday.  Tanaka picked up his 10th win of the season, scattering five hits over 7 2/3 shutout innings in a 7-0 victory for the Bronxo Bombers.  New York's bats caught fire, as they hit four homers off Jered Weaver and totalled 15 hits.
