Saturday Sports Update

Top left: Buffalo Bills head coach Sean McDermott says he liked the performances of all three of his quarterbacks -- Nathan Peterman, A.J. McCarron, and Josh Allen -- in his team's first preseason game against the Carolina Panthers.  Addressing the media before Friday's practice, McDermott suggests the competition among the three has caused them to step up their game.  He added that he liked Allen's performance, starting aggressively and eventually settling in.

Top right: One of the main objectives of every NFL team in the preseason is avoid serious injuries.  So far, so good for the Bills, but not so for the Washington Redskins, as their rookie running back, Derrius Guice, tore his ACL on Thursday against the New England Patriots.  On Friday, Guice learned that he will be out for the entire 2018 season.  Photo by the Washington Post

Bottom left: Ronald Guzman made himself known Friday night in the Bronx.  The Texas Rangers rookie belted three solo home runs as they defeated the New York Yankees 12-7.  Guzman has been a big thorn in New York's side this season; he now has six homers this season against the Bronx Bombers, which makes him the first Rangers player to hit that many homers against the Yanks in one season.

Bottom right: The final golf major of the season has the pros in St. Louis this week.  Gary Woodland leads the PGA Championship at -10 after two rounds.  He leads by one over Kevin Kisner and two over Brooks Koepka and Rickie Fowler.  Photo by USA Today
