Saturday Sports Update
Top: Dunkirk and Fredonia were both victorious in Week 2 on the high school gridiron, but we'd be remiss if we didn't mentioned what some of the smaller schools did! Silver Creek quarterback Austin Rott (left) threw for 129 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Black Knights to a 42-6 rout of Akron on Friday. Meanwhile, Falconer/Cassadaga Valley got 64 yards passing and 132 yards rushing from Connor Crabtree (right), as the Golden Cougars beat Chautauqua Lake/Westfield 32-13. Eight shutout innings with three hits and no walks from the Japanese pitcher lifted the New York Yankees to a 4-0 win over the Mariners. Gleyber Torres and Andrew McCutchen provided the run support for Tanaka with two-run homers in the 2nd and 3rd innings, respectively. Photo by USA Today
