Top left: Jeff Skinner was one of the few bright spots for the Buffalo Sabres on Friday. Skinner scored two goals, but the Sabres didn't do much of anything else in a 6-2 loss to the New York Rangers at the KeyBank Center -- in fact, after the game, Sabres coach Phil Housley called his team's performance "soft." Friday night's defeat capped a six-game homestand in which the Sabres went 3-3-1. Photo by the Buffalo Sabres

Bottom: Two local high school basketball players reached the 1,000-point milestone on Friday. Cassadaga Valley senior Connor Crabtree (left) reached the milestone in a 62-55 win over Cattaraugus-Little Valley. Silver Creek freshman Abby Rice (right) also reached that plateau in a 59-18 blowout of JFK. These two players and many others will be gearing up for the Section VI playoffs, which get underway on Tuesday! Photos by the Observer
