Sunday Sports Update
Top: 14 weeks ago, the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs met at Bills Stadium during the regular season, with the Chiefs coming out on top by a 26-17 score. Today, the two teams meet again at Arrowhead Stadium, but this time with much higher stakes -- a trip to Tampa and Super Bowl LV. For Josh Allen (left) and the Bills, it would mark the franchise's first Super Bowl appearance in 27 years, while for Patrick Mahomes (right) and the Chiefs, it would be their second consecutive Super Bowl appearance. WDOE (94.9 FM/101.5 FM/1410 AM) will have live coverage of tonight's AFC Championship Game from the Westwood One Radio Network, with kickoff from Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium at 6:40 PM! Bottom left: The Philadelphia Eagles made it official this morning, announcing the hiring of Jamestown native Nick Sirianni as the team's new head coach. The news of Sirianni's hiring was initially reported on Thursday by multiple major media outlets, including ESPN and the NFL Network. Sirianni, who spent the past three seasons as offensive coordinator of the Indianapolis Colts, takes over an Eagles team that finished last in the NFC East this season with a 4-11-1 record. Bottom right: The University of Michigan has put all of its sports programs on pause for two weeks following multiple reports of positive tests of the UK strain of COVID-19. Michigan Athletic Director Warde Manuel said in a statement, "Canceling competitions is never something we want to do, but with so many unknowns about this variant of COVID-19, we must do everything we can to minimize the spread among student-athletes, coaches, staff, and to the student-athletes at other schools."
