Sabres just miss snatching a point from Florida...Power expected to join the team on Tuesday...and a walk-off win for the Yankees on Opening Day. More details from Greg Larson on today's Saturday Sports Update...
Saturday Sports Update
Top: It was a day of ups and downs for the Buffalo Sabres on Friday. In their game against the Florida Panthers (left), the Sabres jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one period, gave up their lead in the 2nd period, and appeared like they would get at least one point. However, that eluded them as well, as the Panthers scored the game-winning goal with 37.3 seconds left in regulation, sending the Sabres to a 4-3 loss. Before the game, the Sabres announced the signing of Number 1 overall draft pick Owen Power (right) to a three-year entry-level contract. Sabres General Manager Kevyn Adams announced that Power is expected to make his NHL debut on Tuesday. Photos by the Buffalo Sabres and the University of Michigan
Bottom: Friday also provided a mixed bag for New York Yankees fans. Josh Donaldson (left) provided some heroics in the team's season opener with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 11th inning to beat the Boston Red Sox 6-5. Meanwhile, the team was unable to reach an agreement with slugger Aaron Judge (right) on a contract extension; Yankees GM Brian Cashman said that Judge was offered a seven-year extension worth over $213 million, but that it was turned down. Judge told reporters after the game that he would like to remain a Yankee, but that he wouldn't mind testing free agency. Photos by Newsday
