Saturday Sports Update

Top left: A scant number of fans are left in the stands Friday evening at Cleveland's Progressive Field during a rain delay.  It wound up being more than just a delay, as the opening game of a weekend series between the New York Yankees and Cleveland Guardians got postponed.  The contest will be made up today as part of a split doubleheader.  Photo by Andre Knott

Top right: Rudy Gobert is at the center of a blockbuster trade, as the NBA's free agency period continues to heat up.  On Friday, multiple reports indicated that the Utah Jazz and the Minnesota Timberwolves agreed to a deal to send Gobert to the Timberwolves, while the Jazz receive five players and four future 1st-round draft picks.  Gobert, a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year, averaged 15.6 points and 14.7 rebounds per game last season.  Photo by USA Today

Bottom: Two high school softball players in the north county have received All-Western New York First Team honors for their performances during this past season. Fredonia sophomore Jordan Lucas (left) and Westfield junior Haleigh Dellow (right) earned the honors after both players helped lead their respective teams to Section VI titles. Both players shined at the plate and in the pitching circle; Lucas was a .400 hitter and had an ERA of 0.66 in the pitching circle, while Dellow led the Lady Wolverines with a .526 batting average and six home runs and had an ERA of 0.83.  File photos
