Saturday Sports Update
Top: There wasn't much that went right for the Buffalo Bills in their preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers on Friday. Arguably the brightest spot of the night for the team was quarterback Matt Barkley (left), who served as the team's punter while Matt Araiza was not in uniform for the game. After the game, head coach Sean McDermott was emotional in addressing the gang rape lawsuit against Araiza, calling it "very serious" and saying that the organization has "more work to do." The 6th-round draft pick issued a statement on Friday through his agent, saying, "The facts of the incident are not what they are portrayed in the lawsuit or in the press. I look forward to quickly setting the record straight." Photo by the Buffalo Bills
Bottom right: Last week at this time, the New York Yankees were mired in their worst stretch of the season, a run of 14 losses in 17 games. Since then, the Bronx Bombers seemed to have rediscovered their mojo, winning five in a row. On Friday, Aaron Judge launched a three-run home run to center field, his 49th homer of the year, propelling the Yanks to a 3-2 win over the Oakland Athletics. Photo by USA Today
