Saturday Sports Update -- September 24, 2022

Fredonia falls to Salamanca in high-scoring affair...Bills starting safety to miss the rest of the season...and the Yankees get closer to clinching the American League East.  More details from Greg Larson on today's Saturday Sports Update...

Saturday Sports Update

Top left: Keegan Whitfield gets ready to make a 53-yard reception during the 4th quarter of Friday night's high school football game between Fredonia and Salamanca.  Whitfield had a brilliant individual performance for the Billies in their 40-30 loss at the Orange Bowl; the senior caught eight passes for 225 yards and two touchdowns.  His scoring plays went for 28 and 74 yards.  Photo by Greg Larson

Top right: The Buffalo Bills will be without one of their key defensive players for the rest of the year.  Late this morning, the agent for Micah Hyde announced that the starting safety will be placed on injured reserve as a result of the neck injury he suffered in the Bills' 41-7 win over the Tennessee Titans.  The news does not bode well for an ailing Buffalo defense, which will be without at least three other players for Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins.  Photo by the Buffalo Bills

Bottom left: The New York Yankees are getting closer to clinching the American League East crown.  On Friday, the Bronx Bombers defeated the Boston Red Sox 5-4 at Yankee Stadium, as Harrison Bader scored the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 8th inning.  New York's magic number is now four to win the division.  Meanwhile, Aaron Judge remains on 60 home runs on the season after failing to go yard in the game.  Photo by USA Today

Bottom right: Major League Baseball now has four players with 700 career home runs.  On Friday, Albert Pujols of the St. Louis Cardinals homered twice to reach the milestone, joining Barry Bonds, Hank Aaron and Babe Ruth as the only players in the history of MLB to hit 700.  Photo by USA Today
