Saturday Sports Update -- March 18, 2023

Sabres' postseason hopes dealt a blow with loss in Philadelphia...Bills part ways with McKenzie...and a "Fairleigh" big upset in Friday's NCAA Tournament action.  More details from Greg Larson on today's Saturday Sports Update...

Saturday Sports Update

Top left: The Buffalo Sabres may be in the thick of a playoff race, but results like they had Friday night are not going to help their cause.  The Sabres' three-game road trip ended with a thud, giving up three goals in the 2nd period en route to a 5-2 loss to the Philadelphia Flyers.  The result leaves the Sabres six points out of a wild card spot in the NHL's Eastern Conference playoff picture with 14 games remaining.  Photo by the Buffalo Sabres

Top right: The NFL's free agency period has begun, and the Buffalo Bills are continuing to make some moves.  On Friday, the Bills released wide receiver Isaiah McKenzie after a 4 1/2-year stint with the team.  McKenzie, who was acquired by the Bills in the middle of the 2018 season, set career highs with 42 receptions for 423 yards last season.  The move was made shortly after the team signed former New Orleans Saints receiver Deonte Harty.  Photo by the Buffalo Bills

Bottom right: Following Wednesday's First Four win over Texas Southern, Fairleigh Dickinson players stated that they were confident they could knock off Purdue, one of the 1-seeds in the NCAA Tournament.  The Knights backed up their confidence on Friday by eliminating the Boilermakers by a 63-58 score in the first round of the East Region.  FDU's next opponent will be Florida Atlantic on Sunday.  Photo by Fairleigh Dickinson University
