Saturday Sports Update
Top left: Today is championship Saturday in Section VI high school baseball, and Fredonia will get its opportunity to bring home the blue patches. In order to do that, the Hillbillies will have to face the team that eliminated them in last year's Class B-2 playoffs. Shown above is a Roy-Hart baserunner scoring one of 12 runs in last year's quarterfinal round in Fredonia, which the Billies lost 12-1 in five innings. They'll get another crack at the Rams, this time on the artificial surface of Grand Island. WDOE (101.5 FM/1410 AM) will broadcast today's contest, with first pitch slated for 3:00 PM. Top right: Could this open the door for DeAndre Hopkins to come to Buffalo? On Friday, the Arizona Cardinals released Hopkins after spending three years with the team. The Bills were among a handful of AFC teams reportedly showing interest in Hopkins, who was one of the NFL's most productive receivers when he played for the Houston Texans (2013-2019). A combination of injuries and a suspension has slowed his productivity over the last two seasons. Photo by the Arizona Cardinals

Major League Baseball announced the suspension before the Yankees' game with the San Diego Padres on the heels of Boone getting ejected for arguing balls and strikes in the 3rd inning of his team's loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Thursday, the fourth time Boone has been tossed from a game the season. Bottom right: The Buffalo Sabres this morning announced the signing of one of their 2019 draft picks to a two-year, entry level contract. Ryan Johnson, who has played collegiately at Minnesota, was drafted 31st overall by the Sabres four years ago. Johnson will report to the Sabres' AHL affiliate, the Rochester Americans.
