Sunday Sports Update

Top: The Buffalo Sabres are making an effort to bolster their defense during the NHL's free agency period.  On Saturday, the Sabres announced that they have signed a pair of veteran defensemen.  Connor Clifton (left) was part of the Boston Bruins' top-ranked penalty kill last season and ranked first in the NHL in fewest power play goals allowed per 60 minutes of ice time.  Erik Johnson (right) comes to Buffalo after spending more than 12 seasons with the Colorado Avalanche; his time in Denver included winning a Stanley Cup in 2022.  Photos from NHL.com

Bottom right: Damian Lillard has spent his entire 11-year NBA career with the Portland Trail Blazers, and now it looks like he wants out.  ESPN reported on Saturday that the superstar point guard has requested the Blazers to trade him, and that he wants to be dealt to the Miami Heat.  Lillard, who was drafted by Portland with the 6th overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft, is coming off a season in which he ranked third in the league with 32.2 points per game.  Photo by USA Today
