The American Red Cross is in its 11th annual "Sound the Alarm" campaign, which seeks to reduce the incidence of injuries and fatalities associated with residential fires. For the second year in a row, the Red Cross will host an event in Chautauqua County that will include several community partners. Barter says volunteers will meet at SUNY Fredonia and branch out to communities that have been disproportionately affected by house fires, such as Fredonia, Dunkirk and Jamestown. According to the Red Cross, Chautauqua County is one of the highest ranked counties in the state in terms of risk for injury or death due to residential fires.
