Borrello: Late State Budget 'Not Even Close' to Being Completed

New York State's budget is more than a month and a half past due, but lawmakers in Albany are "not even close" to completing it. That's the word from State Senator George Borrello, who gave an update on WDOE's "Viewpoint" program on Friday. Borrello says the legislature has approved three of the 10 budget bills that make up the projected $268 billion spending. He says he is hearing that there continue to be disagreements among Democratic leaders over policy items...

One of the budget bills that lawmakers debated and advanced this week was the Public Protection and General Government bill. The Sunset Bay Republican says he voted against it because it contains legislation prohibiting 287(g) agreements with ICE, also known as the Local Cops, Local Crimes Act. Borrello calls it a "fallacy"...

Meanwhile, a bill that Borrello supported contains legislation delaying the state's electric school bus mandate by five years. He says he welcomes that delay, but wants to see more "substantive" changes, including a pilot program to determine the feasibility of electric school buses statewide.
