An early morning fire caused damage to a house in the Village of Fredonia on Saturday. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office says the fire at 49 Hamlet Street originated on a kitchen stovetop and was reported just before 3:00 AM, with firefighters from Fredonia and Dunkirk responding to the scene. According to the Fredonia Fire Department, the flames extended to adjacent rooms and the second floor. Firefighters rescued several pets and turned them over to the occupants, who had evacuated before crews arrived. No injuries were reported, and the county's Fire Investigation Team will be looking into the cause. The Red Cross is assisting four adults living at the residence.
