Statewide Crackdown on Impaired and Reckless Driving Runs Through Memorial Day Weekend

Law enforcement agencies across New York State are ramping up patrols this holiday weekend in an effort to deter alcohol- and drug-impaired driving and reckless driving. The increased enforcement period began Friday evening and runs through Monday night. Drivers can expect to encounter sobriety checkpoints and increased patrols. As part of the crackdown, State Police will use both marked vehicles and Concealed Identity Traffic Enforcement (CITE) vehicles to more easily identify motorists who are violating the law. Last year's Memorial Day weekend enforcement resulted in 34,245 tickets issued for various vehicle and traffic law violations, including 1,404 tickets for impaired driving and 6,139 tickets for speeding.
