Fredonia Hires Retired DPW Employee as Part-Time Supervisor

The Village of Fredonia is turning to a retired Public Works employee to temporarily head up that department on a part-time basis. During a workshop on Monday, trustees approved the hire of Jenness Merrill as DPW Supervisor by a 3-1 vote. One of the sponsors of that measure was LeeAnn Lazarony, who says Merrill is willing to fill that position until the village finds someone permanent. Merrill will get paid at $36.00 per hour. The move comes after last month's decision by the Village Board to fire David Bird. Paul Wandel, who opposed the dismissal of Bird, voted against the resolution. A measure he sponsored to rescind that firing will be acted on next week.
