Brocton Man Arrested After Releasing Horses from Portland Property

A Brocton-area man faces a handful of charges after he allegedly let horses loose from their pasture at a location in the Town of Portland Saturday morning. Chautauqua County Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of unwanted male on Barnes Road shortly after 6:30 AM and, on arrival, identified 39-year-old Jacob Tye as the suspect. Deputies allege that an investigation found that Tye unlawfully entered a building on the property and while inside, removed a bandage from a horse and released horses from pasture. He was taken to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment on charges of 3rd-degree burglary; 3rd-degree criminal tampering; reckless endangerment of property; petit larceny; and overdriving, torturing and injuring animals under New York Ag & Markets Law. Tye, who is being held on $10,000 bail, will answer the charges in Portland Town Court at a later court.

This is not the first time that Tye has been arrested on charges related to the releasing of horses. Most recently, on October 31st of last year, Tye was arrested after he allegedly intentionally released horses from a property in the Town of Pomfret.
