A man got struck by a train in Ripley over the weekend, but remarkably, survived the collision. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office, along with Ripley Fire and State Police, responded to a report of a train-pedestrian accident at the CSX crossing on South State Street just after 9:00 PM Saturday. The Sheriff's Office says the collision happened when 31-year-old Michael Smith of the Town of Ripley tried to cross the tracks before the train crossed. Smith was located near the crossing and suffered non-life threatening injuries. He was transported by ambulance to the Hamot Medical Center in Erie for further treatment.
