Chautauqua County Executive P.J. Wendel says this year's state budget is not as "detrimental" as many county leaders may have thought, but there are still some aspects of the spending plan that are concerning. Wendel learned more about how the budget will affect counties during a meeting of the New York State of Association of Counties earlier this month. Wendel says a "grave" concern surrounds the federal government's changes to SNAP eligibility. He says some counties stand to lose over $5 million...

Last week, State Assemblyman Andrew Molitor said the increase in the budget's size from $268.5 billion to $277 billion is due mainly to increasing health care costs.
