The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office is investigating an altercation that occurred Thursday at the County Clerk's Office in Mayville. In a press release, Media Information Officer Justin Gould said the incident involved a "self-described First Amendment auditor" and a non-county employee in the records room. Building security and the Sheriff's Office responded, and no county employees were involved. County Clerk Greg Carlson is aware of the incident and is fully cooperating. The county has not released any further information at this time, as this is an active investigation.
