Charges have been filed in connection with two incidents involving a self-described First Amendment auditor that occurred in the Chautauqua County Clerk's Office last week. The Clerk's Office, which gave an update in a Facebook post on Monday, stated that one incident involved a non-county employee, and the second involved a county employee not assigned to the Clerk's Office. County Sheriff Jim Quattrone tells WDOE News that both employees were charged with harassment as a result of the altercation.
Meanwhile, the Clerk's Office adds that in response to the incidents, it has reviewed and removed all obsolete and/or inaccurate signage. Additionally, all county employees across all departments were sent a reminder that taking a video and/or pictures in publicly accessible spaces in county buildings is a protected constitutional right under the First Amendment.
