County Employees Voice Concern Over Potential Review of Salaries

Discussion about a possible bipartisan legislature committee to look at salaries in Chautauqua County government isn't sitting well with its largest union. Some members of Civil Service Employees Association (CSEA) Unit 6300 spoke at the end of last week's County Legislature meeting in Mayville. One of them was Unit 6300 President Don Williams of Dunkirk, who says county employees are concerned and should not be used as political pawns...

Williams says in a comparison with neighboring counties, many in the county workforce don't earn as much for the same work as in those counties. Corie Maxson of Jamestown has worked with the county's Department of Mental Hygiene and Social Services and Mental Hygiene for 19 years. Corie Maxson: carry caseloads above state recommendations

CSEA Unit 6300 represents about 900 county workers. The issue of salaries was raised at last month's legislature meeting. However, most of that discussion had to do with department managers.
