Multiple people on board a boat in the Town of Hanover were helped to safety after the vessel began taking on water Friday afternoon. First responders from the Bay Creek Fire District were called to the Hanover Boat Launch shortly after 2:45 PM. According to Silver Creek firefighters, a mid-size vessel was visible from the shore, appearing to be sinking in the back of the boat. Crews determined that the vessel was inoperable, was sinking further, and beginning to list. Fire personnel and the people aboard the boat determined that it was unsafe to stay on board. A bystander-owned boat at the marina was asked to assist with evacuating occupants from the damaged boat. Everyone board was assisted to a nearby marina. No injuries were reported, and the U.S. Coast Guard was notified of the abandoned boat. The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office was also on scene.
