Dunkirk City Schools Eyeing Early Completion of Capital Project's Initial Phase

Despite a late start, the opening phase of the Dunkirk City School District's capital improvement project is currently on track to wrap up earlier than projected. That's according to Superintendent Brian Swatland, who stated on WDOE's "Viewpoint" program that the district is now looking at a mid-August completion of Phase 1.1, which includes a new main entrance, main office, and new counselor's offices at the Middle and High School...

Letters designating the building on West 6th Street as the "Middle and High School" have been put up on the new entrance; the new name officially took effect on July 1st. Swatland says the district has already went to bid on Phase 1.2, which will involve installing air conditioning in some of the other schools. He adds that Phase 1.3 could get bid out as early as September...

Swatland says Phases 1.2 and 1.3 will run concurrently and should take approximately two years to complete. The $83.7 million capital improvement project, which voters approved in 2024, is expected to be completed by 2032.
