A Virginia resident who has ties to northern Chautauqua County recently graduated from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, and he will soon prepare for his first assignment. Cadet Benjamin Meyer, son of Colonel Thomas Meyer and Lieutenant Colonel Leanne Price Meyer, was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and is branched infantry. His mother and twin brother, Lucas, pinned on his bars; and his father led him in the reiteration of the Oath for Commissioned Officers. Family members from Dunkirk, Fairport and New York City were in attendance, as well as family from Arlington, Virginia and Seattle, Washington. Ben served as an Assistant Tactical Officer at West Point in June, training new cadets. He will be on leave at home this summer and will report to the Infantry Basic Officer Leader Course (IBOLC) at Fort Benning, Georgia in August. Upon completion of the IBOLC, Airborne School and Ranger School at Fort Benning, he will report to Fort Bliss, Texas as his first duty station. Ben is the grandson of Frances Price and the late Leon D. Price of Dunkirk.
