Medical Aid in Dying Act Takes Effect in New York

A law that makes physician-assisted suicide legal in New York has now taken effect. The Medical Aid in Dying Act was passed by the State Legislature in June 2025, then signed by Governor Kathy Hochul in February after the original bill was amended to include additional guardrails. State Senator George Borrello, who was a call-in guest on WDOE's "Viewpoint" program on Wednesday, says he still has several concerns about that law. One of them is that there is no "chain of custody" with drugs that would be used to help terminally ill patients end their life...
