Wdowiasz Aiming to Present 2027 City Budget Proposal by Month's End

The Mayor of Dunkirk is looking to present her 2027 budget proposal before the end of this month. Kate Wdowiasz gave an update on the city's budget process as a guest on WDOE's "Viewpoint" program on Thursday. Wdowiasz says she has met with some of her department heads since the hiring of Tracy Smith-Dengler as the City Comptroller. She says the two, along with members of the Common Council, are trying to simplify the way the budget is put together...

Wdowiasz says she has asked her fiscal team to highlight contractual obligations that cannot be cut. She adds that while her team is trying to come up with a spending plan without a property tax increase, the New York State Comptroller's Office may offer recommendations similar to last year, when it suggested a tax hike of 6.8%...

The Mayor did not provide a specific date for her budget presentation, but she says she's hoping to present it during the last week of August "at the very latest."
