
A man from the Dunkirk area was taken into custody after an investigation into a reported domestic dispute in the Village of Fredonia last Thursday. Fredonia Police responded to a residence on Brigham Road shortly before 12:15 AM and found that 19-year-old Matthew Bongiovanni allegedly struck the victim multiple times in the face, causing injuries to the victim's face and eye, as well as a loss of consciousness. Officers add that the incident occurred in the presence of a three-month-old child and a two-year-old child. Bongiovanni was charged with 2nd-degree assault and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child. He was transported to the Chautauqua County Jail for centralized arraignment and is being held on $5,000 bail.
