Borrello Applauds Sheriffs Suing Over Law Banning 287(g) Agreements

State Senator George Borrello says he applauds the 15 sheriffs in New York who are suing over the enactment of the Local Cops, Local Crimes Act. The law, which bans 287(g) agreements between local law enforcement and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), took effect last Tuesday. In a Facebook post the following day, Borrello stated, "The governor wants you to believe this law only stops 'civil immigration enforcement,' as if local cops were out rounding up immigrants indiscriminately. That's a lie. The people affected by these agreements aren't civil violators. They're individuals who have been arrested and charged with actual state crimes: DWI, assault, domestic violence, robbery, etc." Cattaraugus County Sheriff Eric Butler is one of the 15 sheriffs filing suit against Governor Kathy Hochul.
