A volunteer fire department in southern Chautauqua County has been awarded a chunk of money through New York's V-FIRE Grant Program. Governor Kathy Hochul announced this week that the Kiantone Fire Department will receive $560,480 through the program that helps improve facilities, response capabilities and responder safety. It's part of $25 million in capital funding awarded to 65 volunteer fire departments across the state. Hochul says the V-FIRE Grant Program helps offset the financial pressures of rising equipment and construction costs.
