For the first time in over 30 years, a person living in New York State has died in connection with measles. The victim was a child in Lewis County, according to a joint statement issued by the New York State Department of Health and Lewis County Public Health on Monday. The news comes four weeks after Governor Kathy Hochul declared a state disaster emergency in response to the measles outbreak across parts of New York and neighboring states. As of October 24th, New York has had 178 total measles cases this year, with all but eight reported outside of New York City. There have been six confirmed cases reported in Chautauqua County.
