Sherry Lee Casey (nee Lay), 77, of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. She was born in Gowanda at Tri-County Hospital on November 17, 1948 into the Wolf Clan of the Seneca Nation of Indians.
Sherry graduated from Gowanda Central High School in 1966. She graduated from Ithaca College and moved to Boston, MA, where she lived for 33 years before returning home. She enjoyed traveling to the Caribbean and Europe. Her favorite country was Italy.
Survivors include her brother, David (Sue) Lay of Marquette, MI; sister, Marty (Fuzz Parker) Lay of Gowanda; niece, Corrie (David Mruk) Lay of Westland, MI; nephews, Christopher (Jennifer) Buzzard of Baltimore, MD, Kevin (Rebecca) Lay of Westland, MI and Brian (Kelly) Lay of Swartz Creek, MI; and great-nieces and great-nephews. Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, Maxwell and Phyllis (Jimerson) Lay; along with her brother, Sheldon Lay; her husband, John Casey; and a longtime friend, Dale Strawder.
Friends may call on Saturday, February 21 from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM at the Wentland Funeral Home, 10634 Main Street (Route 62) in North Collins, where a funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM.
