Thomas F. Fetter

Thomas F. Fetter, 69, of Cassadaga passed away on Tuesday, February 24, 2026 at ECMC. Born in Dunkirk on April 10, 1956, he was the son of the late Theodore and Regina (Wyszynski) Fetter.

Tom was a proud graduate of Dunkirk High School, Class of 1974. He began his career as an auto mechanic at Ed Mezzio's Garage in Dunkirk, where he showcased his natural talent for working with engines. He later moved to Cassadaga, where he began working with the village. After 25 years of dedicated service, he retired as the Highway Superintendent of Public Works, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and community involvement. Let's not forget the late nights Tom spent in his garage working on vehicles.

Those who knew Tom will remember him for his big heart and willingness to lend a hand to anyone in need. His distinctive personality and genuine kindness made him one of a kind and beloved by many.

In addition to his professional accomplishments, Tom enjoyed a variety of hobbies and interests that brought him joy throughout his life. He loved to be on his boat fishing, or in the woods hunting. Tom also had a passion for speed -- in the early 1980s, he raced hydroplanes right here in Dunkirk. Then Tom got into stock car racing and building engines. He also really enjoyed riding his motorcycle, which he has had for more than 50 years.

Every year he looked forward to his annual camping trip to Canada with his friends, and his work trips to Ithaca, reaching a 30-year milestone.

Tom was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, and he also enjoyed crafting birdhouses that he would generously gift to family and friends.

Memberships include a lifetime member of the First Ward Falcon Club, and he was also a member of the American Legion Post 1280.

Survivors include his niece, Melissa (Walter) Hoffner; nephew, Michael (Kelly) Dougherty; great-nieces and great-nephews, Ryan and Reagan Hoffner, Brianna and Chase Dougherty; and Brooke Woodard, who was like a daughter to him.

Relatives and friends are welcome to attend calling hours on Saturday, February 28 from 10:00 AM-12:00 PM at the McGraw-Kowal Funeral Home, 736 Central Avenue in Dunkirk, where prayer services will follow at 12:00 PM. Interment will be held in Cassadaga Cemetery and will be followed by a Celebration of Life from 1:00-4:00 PM at the Cassadaga American Legion Post 1280, 228 Maple Avenue in Cassadaga.

Arrangements are by R. Michael Mackowiak III.
