Georgette M. "Georgie" McQuiggan, 57, of Dunkirk passed away on Sunday, March 1, 2026 at Brooks Memorial Hospital after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Georgette was born on April 30, 1968 in Dunkirk, daughter of George and Mary Jane (Kwasniewski) McQuiggan. She attended Dunkirk High School and Fredonia State before graduating from Jamestown Community College with an Associate's degree in criminal justice and a minor in psychology. Georgie worked in the hospitality industry, where her warmth and wit made a lasting impression.
Georgie was amazing -- strong, defiant, and resilient in a way that made it clear she did things on her own terms. She faced life the same way she faced illness: head-on, stubborn when she needed to be, and never backing down easily. Her strength was fierce, and her love even fiercer.
She is survived by her daughter, the love of her life, Samantha (Sergio) Palacios of East Rochester; her cat, Meatballs, who was her constant shadow and undisputed favorite; her brother, Timothy (Jan) McQuiggan of Leister, NY; sisters, Sharon (Bob) Maze of Huntersville, NC, Sue McQuiggan of Hilton, NY and Mindy Christopher of Dunkirk; and her cherished nieces and nephews, Cherish, Robbie, Rachel, Matthew, Kylie, Mazie Jane and Christopher. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Mary Jane McQuiggan; her brother, Mike McQuiggan; and her longtime partner and best friend, Greg Russell.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 8 from 2:00-4:00 PM at the Larson-Timko Funeral Home, 20 Central Avenue in Fredonia, where a funeral service will follow at 4:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Georgette's memory may be made to a local animal shelter or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
